Twenty students in Newport will have the opportunity to earn a welding and fabrication certificate, without leaving town, beginning in January. The one-year certificate is being offered at the Spokane Community Newport Center, and thanks to a $49,152 United States Department of Agriculture Rural Business Development Grant, there will be additional student support.

Spokane Community College has been awarded $2,046,471 over five years to support college initiatives devoted to increasing student success and completion. The grant, entitled the EPIC Project:  to Engage, Prepare and Intrusively Advise Students to Completion is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Title III, Strengthening Institutions Program.
