Placement Testing & New Student Orientation (NSO)
Now that you have finished your application and financial aid forms, it’s time to schedule your placement tests.
Who is required to do placement testing?
The program you’re interested in may require placement testing. You also may satisfy the placement testing requirements with high school or college transcripts, ACT, SAT, or Smarter Balanced scores, or test scores from other colleges. To find out what your requirements are, or to schedule a placement test, contact the Placement Testing Center.
What is placement testing?
Your reading, writing, and math placement tests help us place you into classes where you can experience the greatest academic success. There is a nonrefundable $30 test fee that can be paid at the Cashiers Office prior to your test time.
You can make an appointment and take your placement test at SCC, SFCC or any of our off-campus education centers.
How do I schedule my placement testing?
You may schedule your placement test by phone, in-person (contact information below) or online. Schedule your placement test online: SCC placement testing scheduler | SFCC placement testing scheduler.
PLEASE NOTE: Testing sessions are by appointment only. Testing is scheduled throughout the week during regular business hours and some evening and Saturday sessions are available.
New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation (NSO) is a fun way to learn about your new school and meet with school counselors who are your guides to finishing your degree on time. NSO is mandatory for new students and it’s where most students register for classes. It gives new students a general overview of campus services; information about student life, activities and clubs, instructional technology used on campus and academic counseling and advising for first-quarter classes.
Sign up for an NSO at the testing center after you finish your placement tests. If you have finished your placement tests, but did not sign up for an NSO, contact the Placement Testing Center or school's admissions office to schedule your NSO.
