OPEN CONTINUOUSLY
This announcement is to provide
supervisors with candidates for Custodian at Community Colleges of Spokane
(CCS). Positions are located in
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Clean
and sanitize restrooms, classrooms and common areas.
·
Change
light bulbs and replenish supplies such as toilet paper, soap products, paper towels
and etc.
·
Sweep,
mop and vacuum floors; shampoo carpets; strip, clean, buff and apply floor
finish to floors.
·
Empty
wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers; empty and clean ashtrays and
cigarette urns.
·
May
need to drive a vehicle to pick up trash.
·
Maintain
building entries, ramps and walkways by removing debris, snow and ice as needed
and directed.
·
Set
up and take down equipment for meetings, classrooms and events such as easels,
chalkboards, chairs, tables etc.
·
May
assist in transporting equipment between CCS locations.
·
Maintain
and reorder adequate stock of custodial supplies.
·
Clean
equipment at conclusion of use and maintain equipment in good working order.
·
Lock
and unlock buildings when requested; secure buildings when facilities are not
in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized
occupants.
·
Report
the need for repair or maintenance of buildings to supervisors.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Move
furniture and equipment on an incidental basis.
Perform other related duties.
·
Acceptance
of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at
all times.
·
A

objectives of CCS.

Knowledge
of custodial chemicals and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

of generally accepted professional cleaning procedures.

Knowledge
in floor waxing and carpet cleaning procedures.
·
Proficient
in the use of standard custodial equipment.

Ability
to perform cleaning duties specific to the Community Colleges of Spokane,

PHYSICAL
ELEMENTS
Must be able to climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch
while performing custodial duties. Must stand or walk for long periods of
time. Duties include daily lifting of
garbage or objects up to 20 pounds and frequently up to 50 pounds. The job
requires repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Must be able
to understand instructions and recognize hazardous or poisonous materials
and/or products. Must be physically capable of withstanding some exposure to
fumes, dust and/or odors from cleaning chemicals. Respiratory equipment may be
used, requiring adherence to applicable rules (e.g., no beard). Must be
physically capable of working with and mixing custodial chemicals. Must be
physically capable of operating an automatic carpet and floor scrubber, carper
shampooer and extractor, buffer, propane burnisher, stripper and a variety of
vacuum cleaners to include upright, wet, backpack and dry vacuum.
Beginning
monthly salary of $1,891 (Range 26) with annual increments based on seniority
to $2,433. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8 hours per day; 40
hours per week; 12 months per year. The
majority of our custodian positions work schedules are from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30
a.m. This position is a regular
scheduled work period designation with a six (6) month probationary
period. The incumbent is eligible for
overtime compensation at the rate of time and one-half for additional hours of
work directed by the supervisor over 40 hours/week. This position qualifies for a full benefit
plan including a retirement plan, vacation and sick leave, medical and dental
coverage, life insurance, and a long-term disability plan.

employment to either become a member of the union and pay membership dues or,
as a non-member, pay an agency shop fee equal to that amount. This requirement begins upon employment.
