CASHIERS
(AUXILIARY
SERVICES CASHIER I AND II)
OPEN CONTINUOUSLY
Community
Colleges of Spokane is accepting applications to develop an applicant pool of
qualified candidates for future part-time, non-permanent positions as
Cashiers. Cashiers are located at both
the Bookstores and Cashier’s Offices at the campuses (SCC, SFCC, and IEL). Auxiliary Services Cashier I positions are
located in the Bookstore; Auxiliary Services Cashier II positions are located
in the Cashier’s Offices.
Auxiliary
Services Cashier I (Bookstore)
·
Perform
fiscally related tasks using manual and/or computerized systems that involve
distributing and accounting for funds such as distribution of monies owed or
advanced.
·
Process
sales and receive payments by cash, check, credit card, or agency
authorization.
·
Maintain
records of funds received, distributed, and transferred.
·
Maintain
and/or enforce safety procedures to ensure safety of funds.
·
Balance
records at the end of the work day.
·
Prepare
reports of cash receipts.
·
Operate
calculator, adding machine, cash register, and computer terminal.
·
Assistant
customers in locating, selecting, and purchasing various retail items such as textbooks,
drafting equipment, art supplies, clothing items, souvenirs, etc.
·
Stock
shelves and display stands in assigned areas.
·
Monitor
sales and recommend orders in assigned areas.
·
Maintain
clean shelves, fixtures, and furnishings.
·
Maintain
stock in an attractive and orderly manner.
·
Perform
related duties as required.
Auxiliary
Services Cashier II (Cashier’s Office):
·
Process
students’ registrations, tuition and fee payments using a computerized
cashiering system.
·
Post
payments to general ledger accounts and student account records.
·
Reconcile
daily transactions posted to computer system to the actual cash, checks, and
credit cards.
·
Identify
discrepancies and correct.
·
Maintain
student account records, enter changes and issue periodic accounting reports.
·
Disburse
student loans and process financial aid transactions as directed by the
financial aid office.
·
Sell
and distribute campus parking permits, catalogs, and bus passes.
·
Distribute
payroll checks, financial aid checks, travel documents and advances.
·
Reconcile
monthly sales transactions of bus passes, parking permits, welding cards, and
other inventory items on hand.
·
Perform
related duties as required.
·
Acceptance
of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at
all times.
·
A
demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and
objectives of CCS.
·
The
ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws,
regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college
system.

A
demonstrated understanding and value for the contributions that a diverse
workforce can make to the success of the organization and the students we
serve.
Auxiliary
Services Cashier I (Bookstore)
·
Cashier
experience in retail or in a customer service environment.
·
Must
have experience/ training in the use of computers.
Auxiliary
Services Cashier II (Cashier’s Office):
·
Fiscally related work such as bank teller or retail salesclerk.
·
Must
have experience/ training in the use of computers.
Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions. Frequent use of computer
and exposure to terminal screens in performing work assignments. Frequent need for oral and
auditory communications.
Occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and reach.
Auxiliary
Services Cashier I (Bookstore)
$9.53 per hour. Work schedule determined by the supervisor. May require weekend and
occasional evenings. Position not eligible for benefits. Not to exceed 1050 hours per year.
Auxiliary
Services Cashier II (Cashier’s Office):
$10.39 per hour. Work schedule determined by the
supervisor. May
require weekend and occasional evenings.
Position not eligible for benefits. Not to exceed 1050 hours per year.
Persons hired must be able to provide
acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in
the United States. This is an absolute
condition of employment. In addition,
the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and
prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and
promote a multicultural work and education environment. Requires criminal background check. If using personal vehicle for travel, proof
of driver’s license and car insurance required.
Due to the amount of applications received, applications are kept on
file for only six months.
