GENERAL OFFICE ASSISTANT

PART-TIME, NON-PERMANENT POSITION

OPEN CONTINUOUSLY

 

Community Colleges of Spokane is accepting applications to develop an applicant pool of qualified candidates for future part-time, non-permanent General Office Assistants located in Spokane County at Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) District Office, Spokane Community College (SCC), Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC), or the Institute for Extended Learning (IEL).

 

In support of office operations, perform clerical duties such as maintaining record keeping/filing systems and/or data base files, serving as receptionist, answer routine questions (in person or by phone), copying materials, and performing mathematical calculations.

All application materials submitted become property of the Community Colleges of Spokane.  Personal copies need to be made prior to submitting application materials to the Human Resources Office.  The Human Resources Office does not provide copying services.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Under general supervision answer routine questions (in person or by phone); refer students/visitors to appropriate person/department.

·         Receive, sort and distribute mail, take messages.

·         Maintain records and perform filing duties.

·         Post information to various departmental, financial, or other records according to established procedures and standards.

·         Operate office equipment such as computer, typewriter, copy-machine, calculator, and perform routine word processing and terminal input.

·         Perform related duties as required.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Minimum Qualifications)

·         Computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.

·         Excellent communication skills (oral and written).

·         Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.

·         A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.

·         The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.

·         A demonstrated understanding and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of the organization and the students we serve.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is sedentary in nature.  Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions.  Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments.  Frequent need for oral and auditory communication.

 

RATE OF PAY AND HOURS OF WORK

$8.55 per hour.  Work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.  Total hours per year will not exceed 1050 per year.  Position is not eligible for benefits.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States.  This is an absolute condition of employment.  In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles.  Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.  Positions in Head Start require a post offer/pre-employment physical.  Requires criminal background check.  If using personal vehicle for travel, proof of driver’s license and car insurance required.  Due to the amount of applications received, applications are kept on file for only six months.
