Community Colleges of Spokane is accepting
applications to develop an applicant pool of qualified candidates for a
part-time, non-permanent, seasonal Grounds Worker in the Facilities Department.

Seed,
mow, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge, and maintain lawns.
·
Plant,
transplant, trim, and water plants, flowers, trees and shrubs.
·
Install,
fix, and maintain sprinkler heads, adjust spray patterns, and install sprinkler
lines.
·
Prepare
soil for planting, seed, sod, plants, trees, and shrubs.
·
Clean,
service, adjust, maintain, and make repairs to tools and equipment.
·
Use
a variety of manual tools and equipment such as hand rakes, hand edgers,
loppers, pruner, shovels, wheelbarrow, weeding fork, hoe, and seed spreaders.
·
Operate
a variety of powered and motorized equipment such as weed trimmers, trenchers,
top dresser, chain saws, back pack blowers, hand held gas blowers, tillers,
light tractors, front-end-loaders, small tractors, utility vehicles, skid
steer, lawn mowers, sweepers, aerators, rollers, sod cutters, and powered snow
blowers.

Remove
debris, leaves, brush, and pruning clippings from sidewalks, grounds, roads,
ramps, and stairs.
·
Empty
campus waste cans.
·
Remove
snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, ramps and roads and sand/deice as
required.
·
Perform
related duties as required.
·
Ability
to do required work.
·
Valid
driver’s license.
·
Knowledge
of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
·
Able
to read English and interpret instructions on MSDS.
·
Ability
to communicate in English.
·
Ability
to work both independently and as a member of a team.
·
Acceptance
of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at
all times.
·
A
demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and
objectives of CCS.
·
The
ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws,
regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college

Incumbent
must be able to climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch while
performing duties. Incumbent must stand
or walk for long periods of time. Duties
include daily lifting of objects up to 50 pounds and fequently up to 75 poinds. The job requires repetitive movement of the
wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The
incumbent must be able to understand instructions and recognize hazardous or
poisonous materials and/or products.
There may be some exposure to fumes, dust, and/or odors from cleaning
chemicals. Respiratory equipment may be
used, requiring adherence to applicable rules (e.g., no beard). Incumbent must be physically capable of
operating a variety of mechanized, powered, and non-powered hand tools, mowers,
and applicable grounds maintenance equipment.
$9.50
per hour. Work
schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Total hours per year will not exceed 1050 per year. Position is not eligible for benefits.
Persons hired must be able to provide
acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in
the United States. This is an absolute
condition of employment. In addition,
the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and
prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and
promote a multicultural work and education environment. Requires criminal background check. If using personal vehicle for travel, proof
of driver’s license and car insurance required.
Due to the amount of applications received, applications are kept on
file for only six months.
