Spokane Community College

Impact of items detailed below-$2,257,141 

  • Awarded $729,155 in scholarships to 1,049 SCC students.
  • Raised $603,225, including a named gift and a National Endowment for the Humanities grant, for the Hagan Foundation Center for the Humanities.
  • Provided $103,500 in unrestricted program support funds and another $29,600 for equipment.
  • Sponsored the construction and sale of five “Touch the Future” houses through a partnership with the building trades and horticulture/landscape programs at SCC. Generated $299,260 for scholarships and affiliated programs through this project during this time period.
  • Procured $50,214 in non-cash gifts for Technical Education programs from Boeing surplus store.
  • Hosted a breakfast to highlight AgTech programs to more than 500 prospective students and agriculture professionals.
  • Co-sponsored three Bigfoot Golf Classic events with the CCS Athletic Department, raising $57,137 for student athletic scholarships and community involvement activities.
  • Initiated an annual mini-grant program open to all CCS faculty and staff. Funded seven SCC projects worth $5,050 in the program’s first year.
  • Awarded 50 SCC faculty members $30,000 in stipends through the Exceptional Faculty Endowment.
  • Established the Exceptional Professional/Administrator Endowment, which will honor high performing professional exempt and mid-level administrators throughout the district.

Spokane Falls Community College

Impact of items detailed below-$1,798,834

  • Awarded $528,364 in scholarships to 779 SFCC students.
  • Raised $500,000 needed to receive a match from the State to complete the $1 million addition and remodel of the Life Science Laboratories and Greenhouse.
  • Provided $73,500 in unrestricted program support funds and another $29,600 for equipment.
  • Initiated an annual mini-grant program open to all CCS faculty and staff. Funded four SFCC projects worth $2,700 in the program’s first year.
  • Awarded 44 SFCC faculty members $27,000 in stipends through the Exceptional Faculty Endowment.
  • Established the Exceptional Professional/Administrator Endowment, which will honor high performing professional exempt and mid-level administrators throughout the district.
  • Co-sponsored three Bigfoot Golf Classic events with the CCS Athletic Department, raising $57,137 for student athletic scholarships and community involvement activities.
  • Awarded $5,000 to Running Start students at SCC and SFCC demonstrating financial need for books.
  • Facilitated the establishment of several memorial endowments including the Collin J. Smith Leadership Award Endowment, the Walter J. Spangenberg Academic Scholarship Endowment, and the Spencer Haugh Memorial Scholarship Endowment. Donations to these endowments total $53,655.
  • Facilitated the establishment of several memorial scholarships including the Ken Hinton Memorial Scholarship, Klaus Scherler Journalism Achievement Scholarship, Gerard H. Phan Scholarship, and the Tara Praeger Sims Memorial Scholarship. Donations to these funds total $21,878.
  • Created Community Colleges of Spokane Alumni Association. More than 1100 alumni have joined and have access to special offers and discounts from area businesses.

Institute for Extended Learning

Impact of items detailed below-$2,488,870

  • Awarded $238,670 in scholarships and/or fee waivers to 5,335 IEL students.
  • Matched $52,600 in donations to the IEL Scholarship Matching Campaign. 
  • Transferred ownership of three buildings valued at $1.56 million to the district--two buildings that house IEL programs in Colville and the Early Head Start facility on Boone Street. This gift led to $500,000 in new maintenance and operating funds from the State per biennium.
  • Provided $12,500 in unrestricted program support funds and another $29,600 for equipment.
  • Raised $23,000 to purchase equipment for key IEL programs in Colville. 
  • Initiated an annual mini-grant program open to all CCS faculty and staff. Funded two IEL projects worth $1,500 in the program’s first year.
  • Awarded 28 IEL faculty members $19,000 in stipends through the Exceptional Faculty Endowment.
  • Established the Exceptional Professional/Administrator Endowment, which will honor high performing professional exempt and mid-level administrators throughout the district.
  • Raised $12,000 to establish the Don Schmick Scholarship Endowment to benefit CCS students in Whitman County. 
  • Received a $25,000 grant from the Education Assistance Foundation to help ABE students transition to college through the IEL Bridge Program.
  • Procured a $15,000 donation to establish the A. Nanny Mouse Endowment, which provides tuition assistance for ESL students.
  • Created Community Colleges of Spokane Alumni Association. More than 1100 alumni have joined and have access to special offers and discounts from area businesses.
