FAQFrequently Asked Scholarship Questions

Q: Do I need to complete a separate application for each scholarship?

A: No. You just need to complete one application and you become eligible for every scholarship for which you meet that particular criteria. For example, if you apply for a scholarship and you are planning on enrolling in the nursing program, you automatically are considered for all of the applicable health science scholarship pools.

Q: Why do I need to attach a copy of my financial aid application even though it shows I am not eligible for financial aid?

A: It is very important to attach the application because the Foundation scholarship committee uses a different set of criteria for determining financial need. Many students who are not deemed eligible for state or federal aid meet the Foundation’s criteria for need-based scholarships.

Q: How important is grade point average in attaining a scholarship?

A: Every scholarship the Foundation awards has individual criteria. For some scholarships, GPA is a primary consideration, but for many, other criteria like field of study or financial need are used to select recipients. That being said, the minimum grade point needed to apply for scholarships is 2.0 for incoming freshmen and 2.5 for returning students.

Q:
How important are the letters of recommendation?

A: Very important! What your teacher, counselor or employer has to say about you carries a lot of weight with the scholarship committee. Current letters are preferred to ones written several years ago.

Q: If I receive federal or state financial need grants, will accepting a scholarship change this?

A: Generally, the answer is no. If you are awarded a scholarship you should check with the financial aid office on campus to check your status.
