Associated Industries Bright Promise Application

 

The Associated Industries (A.I.) Bright Promise Program recognizes students with a passion for learning and a bright future in one of four areas:  Business, Technology, Manufacturing Technology and Health Science.  The program was created by Associated Industries and is co-funded in partnership with United Healthcare and Wells Fargo Insurance Services.  It provides half of one year’s tuition at Community Colleges of Spokane or Eastern Washington University.  If you will be attending EWU for 2012-13, do not continue.  You need to complete the application available on the EWU website.

READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS.   

 

1.       The Associated Industries Bright Promise Application is due in the CCS Foundation Office  by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012.  Do not wait until the last minute to apply as you may need time to research information or obtain documentation.  LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

 

2.       Your application packet must include:

q  Personal Statement – (no more than 2 pages double spaced) – should highlight your

q  Two letters of recommendation

q  A recent transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)

o   If you have 45 or fewer college credits (and ALL high school seniors), you must provide a copy of your high school transcript along with a transcript for all college credits earned.

o   If you have 46 or more college credits, provide a copy of transcripts for all college credits earned.

 

3.       You cannot save your work and access it later so have your documents ready to attach BEFORE beginning the application.

 

4.       ABOUT PERSONAL STATEMENTS – While your student information detail is critical for consideration, you should also put great care into a Personal Statement.  The Personal Statement should highlight your best qualities and show why you think you have earned an A.I. Bright Promise program Scholarship.  You may want to cover topics including, but not limited to:

o   Whether you are:

§   A non-traditional student  (returning to school years high school graduation)

§  A parent

§  A former member of the military

o   Your participation in outside activities including work or volunteer experiences, membership in clubs or groups, community service

o   Your grade point average (GPA) – If it is low, what your plan is to improve

o   Your future plans including career goals and other aspirations

o   Your reason(s) for pursuing a particular degree/major/program of study

 

5.       You will need to scan the above attachments to a flash/thumb drive or to your computer so that you can attach them to your application.  Scanners are available in the libraries at SCC and SFCC, in the IEL Student Financial Services office, in the foundation office, and are available for a fee at Office Depot and FedEx/Kinko’s.  Your local school or library may have a scanner.  If you are ABSOLUTELY not able to access a scanner, please contact Patci Ryan at pryan@ccs.spokane.edu or at 434-5128 (email contact preferred).

 

6.       All information obtained on this form is voluntary; however, the A.I. Bright Promise Program Scholarship is based on specific criteria.  By providing the information below, you will help the selection committee quickly determine if you qualify to receive this scholarship. 

 

7.       This application is for the Associated Industries Bright Promise Scholarship ONLY.  To apply for other major CCS Foundation Scholarships you will need to complete the CCS Foundation Scholarship Application.

 

8.       Previous scholarship applicants or recipients need to reapply each year.

 

9.       Scholarship applications should not be completed as though they were text messages.   Proofread your application before you submit it.  Use correct capitalization, spelling and punctuation.   

 

10.   The committee and staff members responsible for reviewing your application want to know WHY YOU ARE A GOOD INVESTMENT FOR PRIVATELY CONTRIBUTED DOLLARS. 

 

11.   Most correspondence is done via email.  Scholarship recipients will be notified by the first week of July.  Non-recipients will be notified by the third week of July.   Please do not contact the office prior to that date to see if you have received a scholarship.

 

12.   You will receive a confirmation that your application has been received when you hit the “SUBMIT” button.

 

13.   If you receive a scholarship, it is your responsibility to check with the financial aid office at your campus to see if the scholarship will have any impact on other aid you are expected to receive.  You should also check with the Department of Social and Health Services to see if a scholarship will impact assistance you are or will be receiving through DSHS.
