Cluster description
Construction is one of the largest industries in America, employing more than 10 million people.  The construction industry is rapidly changing because, for instance, buildings are becoming more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.  Highly skilled technicians and professionals will continue to be in high demand.

Necessary skills
Many careers demand a solid background in math and science, excellent communication skills and a variety of technical skills.  Most community college programs include classroom learning and hands-on, real-world experiences. 

Educational path
Programs generally last two years, at which point students receive an associate in applied science degree.  Some fields offer shorter certificate programs.  Other paths provide skills for entry-level jobs and high-skill careers.  Be sure to work with a counselor to develop your personalized educational plan.
