Cluster description
Hospitality and tourism programs prepare students for careers in four general areas: Travel and tourism, lodging, food services and recreation services.  These careers are in high demand across the United States and throughout the world.   

Necessary skills

Hospitality and tourism professionals generally have excellent communication skills, enjoy working with people and handle themselves well in stressful situations.  Many careers are physically demanding, others require creativity and leadership skills.

Educational path  
At Spokane Community College, hospitality and tourism programs generally last two years, at which point students are ready for entry-level positions in highly-skilled fields.  Some students transfer to universities into hospitality management programs.
