Orientation and Placement Tests

Students admitted to Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) will receive detailed information regarding orientation and testing times in their acceptance package.

CCS runs on a quarter system with 4 entry dates per year.  The CCS academic calendar provides specific start dates for each quarter, as well as the required orientation date.

CCS International Student Orientation

Required for all international students, this orientation cannot be waived or excused.
 
Fall 2013:  September 20, 2013
Winter 2014: January 3, 2014
Spring 2014:  April 4, 2014
Summer 2014:  June 30, 2014 
 
CCS IELP Orientation

CCS IELP orientation is for students who do not have sufficient proof of English proficiency.
 
Fall 2013: September 23 and 24, 2013
Winter 2014: January 6 and 7, 2014
Spring 2014: April 7 and 8, 2014
Summer 2014: July 1 and 2, 2014 

English Placement

CCS ESL Test

Students who did not submit proof of English proficiency or have no proof of English proficiency at the time of application must take the CCS IELP Placement Test which is given during IELP orientation.

The Compass Test

Students who submit proof of English Proficiency at the time of application will take the Compass Test in the Testing Office, either located at Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) or at Spokane Community College (SCC), depending on where they are attending school. 

There is a $30 test fee for the Compass Test and you must have valid photo ID to take the test.  The Compass Test consists of four sections: Reading, Listening, Grammar, and Writing Skills.  The first three sections are multiple choice and the last section is a written essay done on the computer in Microsoft Word.

Math Placement

All College Transfer and Professional and Technical students must take the Math placement test, either at SFCC or at SCC, depending on the school they are attending.  Students should take this test before their first quarter of full-time academic study.  SFCC requires students to take the MyMath placement test and SCC requires students to take the Compass Math placement test.
