Spokane Mayor David Condon Proclaims CCS Academic & Athletics Day

Mayor of the City of Spokane David Condon recognized Community Colleges of Spokane’s athletics program after a successful year on and off the field.The proclamation was read at the Spokane City Council meeting on August 31. During the 2014-15 year, the CCS athletics program won five Northwest Athletic Conference championships including men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s track and field, men’s golf and women’s softball. It is recognized as one of the most successful programs in the Northwest Athletic Conference, ranking the second most successful program on the west coast and sixth most successful program in the nation.
Additionally, CCS athletes excel in the classroom. CCS Athletic Director Ken Burrus said about 40 percent of sophomore athletes won scholar athlete awards meaning they had to achieve a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
