Day of Dialogue planned for Jan. 14 at SCC

The Spokane Community College Student Awareness League has teamed with Eastern Washington University’s Africana Studies Program to bring a day of dialogue to campus on Jan. 14. The event will take place 7:30 a.m. – noon at the SCC Lair, 1800 N Greene Street, Building 6.

Scott Finney, director/professor of Africana Studies at EWU will open the event with “The History of Law Enforcement and Race in America” at 7:30 a.m.

The keynote address, “We Can’t Breathe: How Racial Oppression is Choking the Justice out of Law Enforcement,” will be given by Rachel Dolezal, president of the NAACP Spokane Chapter and professor at EWU. The keynote is from 8:30 – 9:20 a.m. and is followed by a small group discussion, “Unraveling the Road to Peace.”

A resource fair from 8 a.m. – noon will feature information booths from the NAACP, Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane and other social justice groups. The event will be filmed and shared nationally by the American Association of Women in Community Colleges.
