Longtime Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation supporter and former Spokane Falls Community College instructor Margaret Thrailkill passed away in February at the age of 98, but her legacy will continue to live on. Thrailkill donated a life insurance policy of $25,000 to the CCS Foundation. This gift is one of many Thrailkill made throughout her lifetime and more than doubles her fund providing scholarships to outstanding Spokane Community College and SFCC students.

Scott Ewing has been named Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation’s 2015 Volunteer of the Year. Foundation Executive Director Tony Higley made the announcement at the CCS Board of Trustees meeting on April 28.

The Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation is pleased to announce a new joint venture with The Arc of Spokane to benefit students and help them build wardrobes for success.  Initially launched by benefactors Tracie Schillinger and Anne Fritz, Wardrobes for Success started as an on-campus event one weekend per year to help students obtain the professional clothing necessary to succeed in the post-college employment world.

Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) will serve as the lead host for an Afghanistan-U.S. Best Practices Study Course, involving a 15-person delegation of Afghanistan higher education professionals. Sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Afghanistan University Support and Workforce Development Program, the Best Practices Study Tour is an important step toward the launch of new associate degree programs in Afghanistan.

Area veterans and their families are encouraged to find out more about programs and opportunities at Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College. The two colleges recently received special designation as Military Friendly Schools because of their comprehensive support and services for veterans.

Northwest Farm Credit Services (Northwest FCS), in partnership with the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation, just announced it will offer $10,000 in scholarships to veterans studying in the General Agriculture, Agriculture/Horticulture, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management and Water Resources Technology programs at Spokane Community College. Providing these opportunities to veterans, while supporting the future of agriculture in the region, is a priority for Northwest FCS.
