Walking on campus

Familiarizing yourself with campus is critical -- both during the day and at night. In the evening, be sure to use sidewalks and parking areas that are well-lighted, well-traveled and appear secure. It's a good idea to travel with a group at night, but both SCC and SFCC campus security also offer escort services on request. To request an escort, call 475-7035 (SCC) or 475-7040. If you do walk by yourself, stay alert and avoid areas where it might be easy for someone to hide.

One more handy tip -- always keep your car keys separate from your backpack and/or purse.

Finally, be sure someone -- a family member, roommate or friend -- has your class schedule each quarter. And if you can, be sure to tell someone when you're leaving and intend to be home.
