Bridge

Learn to play one of the most popular card games in this fun and fast-paced course. Playing bridge has many benefits: socialize anywhere in the world, engage locally in regularly scheduled games, and improve your memory and reasoning skills. Bridge can also be played as a challenging competitive activity at a level appropriate for any amount of talent and experience.

Bridge consists of 2 parts: bidding and play. You will be playing real hands beginning with the first class. This requires having a reasonable contract (which sets the goal  for the play). Normally the bidding precedes card play and determines the contract. It is not possible to teach bidding quickly, so the instructors will provide a simple way to find reasonable contract. We will also explain the mechanics of play and how to score. You will then be on your own to play the hand. Discussion among students is encouraged and plenty of time will be available.

Material from the text on bidding will gradually be added in the following weeks. This will allow the bidding to become progressively more realistic. If the course proceeds rapidly, you will have enough knowledge to bid in any game. The knowledge of card play that you acquired by playing hands throughout the course will be on a similar level.
