Working Conditions

 Working conditions vary according to the medical institution. Job hours may range from early morning to late nights. Positions may be part-time, full-time and/or on-call. Completion of this program does not guarantee employment.
 
Phlebotomists are required to have:
-          Professional appearance
-          Positive attitude
-          Ability move and transport objects weighing up to 20 lbs. for extended periods of time.
-          Good manual dexterity, hand/eye coordination, and color reactions.
-          Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time and to bend over beds.
-          Ability to effectively communicate in all work situations

Basic computer skills (preferred).

 Work Hazards:
-          Exposure to biological hazards
-          Exposure to sharps (needles, lancets, broken glass)
-          Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals
-          Possible exposure to radioactive materials
-          Exposure to electrical equipment and devices
Exposure to possible agitated and combative patients
