Safe walking, jogging and running

It's best to plan your route in advance and in areas that you're familiar with. If you go alone, carry identification and avoid poorly lighted and secluded routes or routes dense with shrubbery and other places where someone could hide. And whether you're exercising alone or with a friend, be sure to have a cell phone, whistle or shrill noise maker with you.

Other safety tips:

1. Wear bright colors.
2. Always face traffic.
3. And don't wear headphones/earphones -- you need to hear oncoming traffic, other runners and cyclists!
