Looking for a flexible and convenient class schedule? If so, registering for one or more distance learning classes may fit your needs perfectly.
CCS offers a number of alternatives to the standard classroom experience:
ONLINE
HYBRID (a mix of classroom and online learning experiences)
TELECOURSE (video-based)
Distance learning classes are identified with the words Online, Hybrid and Telecourse in our class schedule.
Online and hybrid classes require access to a computer with an Internet connection and an e-mail account. Telecourses generally require some on-campus meetings.
Distance learning classes usually work best for students who are self-motivated and can schedule and budget their time effectively. Students taking a 5-credit class should expect to spend at least 12-15 hours/week, 5 to 7 days a week working on class assignments and activities.

BACK TO GENERAL INFORMATION
Online classes
Online classes take place completely via the Internet and require access to a computer with an internet connection and an e-mail account. Most online courses follow each quarter's start and end dates with students accessing their classes five to seven days a week at whatever time is most convenient for them. Although students are not required to attend class meetings on campus, online classes are not “self-paced.” There are assignments and discussions students must complete in a timely manner in order to complete the course successfully. Students should plan on spending 10-15 hours a week per 5-credit course. Because online courses are heavily dependent on reading course materials and interacting with classmates via typing, some students find online classes require additional time to complete. Some classes may require students to take proctored exams.
More information about online courses can be found at:

SCC and SFCC/IEL also offer online classes that originate at other Washington
state community colleges. These classes, which enroll students from
participating colleges, are taught by instructors from across the state. These classes are identified with the word WAOL in the class schedule. More information about WAOL classes can be found at www.waol.org.
Hybrid courses
Hybrid courses combine traditional on-campus instruction with online learning. For example, a 5-credit hybrid course may meet 3 days a week in the classroom and an equivalent of 2 days online.
Telecourses
A telecourse incorporates video/television programs that teach concepts and supplement textbook information. Students are assigned textbook readings, watch videos and may meet with the instructor several times during the quarter.
Class meetings generally take place in the evening. Instructors almost always require telecourse students to take proctored tests one to three times during the quarter.
These tests may be taken at any Community Colleges of Spokane center.
Please refer to the course syllabus for testing and on-campus attendance requirements.
