Don Cox

 

A long-time resident of Whitman County, CCS trustee Don Cox was a member of the Washington State Legislature through 1999, retiring in 2006. Former superintendent of the Colfax School District (1990-98), Cox was appointed to the Washington House of Representatives in 1999 to fill an unexpired term, winning the seat later that fall in the election. He currently serves as vice chair of the board.

A strong advocate for education, Cox served as co-chair and ranking minority member of the House higher education committee; co-chair of the Washington Institute for Public Policy; and was a member of the House K-12 education, appropriations, judiciary, finance and capital budget committees.

During his tenure with the Legislature, he also served on the state's Technology and Washington Learns committees, both gubernatorial appointments.

Cox completed his undergraduate studies at Whitworth College in Spokane, earning a bachelor's degree in political science/history. He then attended Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, earning a master'sdegree in counseling and guidance as well as a doctoral degree in educational administration and supervision.

Prior to his appointment as superintendent of Colfax schools in 1990, Cox served as a teacher, counselor and administrator at a number of Washington public schools (1963-90). He currently is an associate professor in educational administration/leadership at WSU-Spokane.

Cox is a member of the Washington Association of School Administrators and Rotary International. His community service/volunteer interests include Meals on Wheels, Gideon's International, the Palouse Empire Fair and 4H activities.
