Running Start classes are tuition-free up to 18 college-level credits per quarter and also count toward high school graduation requirements.
Successful Running Start students have good study skills, are self-motivated and seek additional academic challenges. But, before you get started, you'll want to talk with your teachers, counselors and parents AND consider these factors:
Factor 1: College classes are taught at a faster pace and require more reading and prep time.
Factor 2: You must maintain a 2.0 college grade-point average, plus complete all high school graduation requirements
Factor 3: You'll need to choose classes carefully to be sure their credits transfer to the four-year college or university of your choice. (Hint: Your Running Start counselor can help you with this!)
Factor 4: Yes, tuition is free (up to 18 college-level credits), but you're responsible for transportation, books, supplies and noncourse-related fees.
Factor 5: You'll be responsible for attending classes regularly, keeping up with assignments and following your college's student code of conduct. If an academic issue arise, you'll have to work it out with your instructor -- your parents cannot contact him or her due to student privacy laws.
