The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Center for Workforce and Continuing Education has been honored for excellence in the Best Marketing category by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the world’s largest lifelong learning association.  The winning entry, designed by CCS’s Public Relations and Marketing Department, was included in a showcase of internationally exemplary programs at the 2015 LERN Annual Conference in New Orleans. Information about the submission was on display in the conference Hall of Learning throughout the three-day conference, Dec. 2-5.  In addition, the winning programs will be featured in future LERN publications and on LERN’s website.

The Spokane Falls Community College drama department is staging a production of “The Madwoman of Chaillot” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 12 – 21 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 and 22, in the Spartan Theater, located in the SFCC Humanities Building.

Spokane Community College has been awarded $2,046,471 over five years to support college initiatives devoted to increasing student success and completion. The grant, entitled the EPIC Project:  to Engage, Prepare and Intrusively Advise Students to Completion is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Title III, Strengthening Institutions Program.

Gov. Jay Inslee has re-appointed Bridget Piper, community volunteer and former Sterling Savings Bank officer, to a second five-year term with Community Colleges of Spokane’s Board of Trustees. Piper was originally appointed to the board in October 2010. Read More...

Spokane Head Start has a new facility in the northern part of Spokane with openings available to serve area infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Spokane County Head Start, part of Community Colleges of Spokane, opened the center, the Northeast Child Development Center (NCDC), in a wing of the Northeast Community Center at 4001 N. Cook, Spokane, near Shaw Middle School this summer. The program provides early childhood education, social services and health services for eligible young children and families, including those with special needs. Read More...

August is typically a slow time at Spokane Community College’s rural learning center in Colville. But regional wildfires have transformed the center into a flurry of activity.
On Sunday, Aug. 16, SCC Colville Center Manager Donna Jo Smith was contacted by the Washington Department of Natural Resources and asked if the campus in Colville could serve as Incident Command for the Colville Complex fire.
